Yorkshire Rose Quliters Guild of Toronto

Sunday, 20 September 2020

Welcome to the 2020-2021 session of the Yorkshire Rose Quilter's Guild.

I'm not sure many of us predicted we would be approaching fall and still in the throws of this pandemic, yet here we  are. Despite the unusual times, quilters world wide have found ways to continue to practice our craft, finding ways to support local fabric shops when stores were unable to accommodate onsite shopping, sharing pictures of finally completed UFO's, and providing online guidance and support to newer quilters who suddenly had time to tackle that first or second project. It was so inspiring to read all of the posts and see all of the beautiful work that has come out of this crazy, crazy year.

Keeping in  the spirit of "keeping on", our guild met virtually for the first time in September. Based on the great feedback we received, it was a success. It was so great to see all of the familiar faces and catch up on how everyone has been fairing.

Along with some great socializing, we took care of important guild business as we held our annual general meeting which had been rescheduled from June. In the meeting we confirmed our new President Elizabeth Giesbrecht and our new Membership Team Anthony and Linda Taylor. We also welcomed back Grace Ramirez as Treasure, Karen Gregory and Arlene Waite as Outreach, Margaret Whitehead and Jeanie Vogel as Library and Maria Ellis and I have taken on the newsletter role for the upcoming year.

FALL PROGRAM

Our new and exciting Fall Program begins in October with  Sew Smart – The Ergonomics of Healthy Quilting presented by Rose Parr.  This is bound to be an exciting and informative presentation so be sure to Zoom in!!!

SEW AND SHARE
We wrapped up our meeting with our "Sew and Share" that included photos and live reveals.
Here are  few of the highlights

From Carolyn Lowen

Pat Sloan's Scrsp Happy "Little Wishes" Challenge. This was also a quilt along and uses 2.5 inch squares. This will turn into my cosy winter quilt. 80" square.

"JELLY ROLL SNOWFLAKE" is a Pat Sloan quilt along from this past summer. She is presenting it again in mid September. It's a great way to use up a jelly roll. 60" square

From Margaret Whitehead

Attached is the front and back of my quilt. No name yet. The blocks were made from a Moda jelly roll. With the remaining blocks I pieced the back. I quilted with a walking foot. It measures 52” x 52

Our Next Meeting

So it appears despite the challenges of a technology which is new to so many of us, we found a way to have a fun, lively and informative guild meeting!! If you weren't able to join us, we look forward to seeing you for our next virtual guild meeting on Wednesday October 14th.

Until then, continue to Inspire, Educate and Share!!

Take care

Lisa
